This course emphasizes three objectives: first, the acquisition of basic B&W photographic skills, including composition, exposure, processing, printing and presentation; second, familiarity with historical and contemporary movements in photography and the development of visual literacy; third, the deepening and expanding of a personal way of seeing towards making photographic images. Students will have regular shooting and printing assignments, be required to compile a portfolio at the end of the semester, and regularly participate in class discussions and critiques. Lab workshops will be held to provide students with assisted technical support in order to practice and improve technique. You are expected to attend these essential sessions weekly.
