Description: This is a hands on workshop which serves as the culmination of Hampshire's Digital Humanities project in digital film studies funded by the Mellon Foundation and taking place in fall 2012. The initial stages of the project involved a keynote speaker, panel discussions with 5 college film studies faculty and students, film showings and participation in Home Movie Day in Northampton. This workshop offers film studies students the opportunity to experience historical methods of moving image projection, from 16 mm film to reel to reel magnetic tape to digital disc, teaching them projection methods and exploring preservation issues around various projected media formats and their means of projection. If time allows, students will also explore some of the historical still image equipment that is part of the Lyle Collection in the Hampshire Special Collections.
